What Is An ENT?

While we commonly refer to these physicians as ENTs, the staff at West River ENT are otolaryngologists. It’s a profession that requires an extensive amount of school and training, with some professionals fine-tuning their specialty for 15 years before starting to practice. Typically, an ENT completes their undergraduate degree, four years of medical school, and at least five years of training in their desired specialty.

After this education and hands-on experience, they must pass the American Board of Otolaryngology examination. Once they are licensed, they practice both the medical and surgical management and treatment of individuals who have disorders or diseases of the ear, nose, throat, head, and neck. Many times, patients are referred to an ENT by their primary care physician if their needs are beyond the scope of general medicine.
